Nestled in the heart of Kailua-Kona, 808 Grindz Cafe Kona is a gem for anyone seeking an authentic Hawaiian breakfast experience that combines hearty flavors with truly reasonable prices. As a cozy cafe and breakfast restaurant, it captures the essence of local island dining with a menu that sparks curiosity and appetite alike.
The cuisine here is a rich, comforting blend of traditional Hawaiian and classic breakfast fare. Their legendary Pork Loco Moco is an absolute must-try—imagine tender, savory pork generously smothered in rich brown gravy, served atop fluffy rice and crowned with a perfectly runny egg. It’s a satisfying taste of home that speaks to both heart and stomach.
If you have a sweet tooth, the Macadamia Nut Pancakes steal the show with their velvety texture and subtle nutty crunch, elevated by homemade sauces like MacNilla Cafe or luscious coconut sauce. For those who love flavor adventures, the specialty pancakes—think Hazelnut with Nutella, Rocky Road to Hana, or the indulgent 808 S’mores stack—are creative and satisfying, each bite a delightful journey. The Chocolate Chip Pancakes and Mac Nut Bacon Waffle also showcase the playful Hawaiian twist on breakfast classics.
What makes 808 Grindz stand apart is how they seamlessly balance generous portions with prices that feel like a steal, especially in a tourist-heavy area like Kona. Diners frequently remark on the wholesome, heartwarming qualities of dishes such as the Da Bene Trio or the uniquely local Dinuguan with Adobo Fried Rice, which offers an adventurous palate a taste of Filipino-Hawaiian fusion.
Beyond the food, the atmosphere at 808 Grindz Cafe Kona exudes a laid-back, no-frills charm. The friendly staff and quick service create a welcoming environment where locals and visitors alike can savor island flavors without pretension. Customer Christian and Jesse perfectly captured this sentiment, praising the “crazy good” steak and hearty portions that far exceeded expectations for a “hole in the wall” diner. Meanwhile, breakfast connoisseurs like Ronnie were blown away by both the soothing POG (passionfruit-orange-guava) beverage and the meticulously crafted macadamia nut pancakes paired with crisp, flavorful hashbrowns.
Whether you’re settling in for a leisurely breakfast or grabbing a quick bite before a day of adventures, 808 Grindz Cafe Kona offers an inviting and richly satisfying experience. From the comforting Moco Moco to the diverse pancake selections, this spot serves up a delicious taste of Hawaii’s culinary heart with each plate.
I didn't expect much going in, it's a hole in the wall little diner. The menu had a ton of options, and we all loved what we got. The steak was crazy good, and for Kona all the priced were like half the price of other places while still giving awesome portions. The pancakes were big and so good. Fried rice was delicious, especially with some yolky eggs. 10/10, would get again
The food was new to me.I never really tasted it before. But it wasn't bad, it wasn't fantastic, but it was edible something different.I'll try some different stuff tomorrow
I am a huge breakfast connoisseur! So when I heard about this place in Hawaii, I had no choice but to visit! All I can say is that I was completely blown out of the water! I ordered the POG (passionfruit-orange-guava) as my beverage, and it was both soothing and thirst quenching! For my main course I ordered the macadamia nut pancakes , with a side of hash-browns, The hash-browns tasted like pure Southern comfort and reminded me of my Grandmother’s!!! Yum! The macadamia nut pancakes came with delicious hazelnut butter and syrup!!! The pancakes melted in my mouth, and the texture with the amazing macadamia nuts was pure bliss! I will be back to try more items! Amazing friendly service + a laid back ambiance while I dined in. Cheers!
Food was really good, needed a bit of salt and pepper. Staff very pleasant and food to table with 10 mins during moderately busy time. I would eat there again for sure
Delicious! It’s pretty busy because of foot traffic from the resorts. Super tasty food. Try the Kahlua pork bene you won’t be disappointed and spring for the fried rice side.
Unfussy hidden gem. Order and pay at a window. The. They serve you really quickly. Great breakfasts with an island flair. My omelette came with breakfast potatoes and the most amazing fried rice I've ever had. Fresh peppers and onions, not over-done. Quick, tasty, gear sized portions that are well-priced. Amazing!!!
